Israeli born clarinetist Ran Kampel enjoys a versatile career of solo, chamber music, orchestral performances, and teaching. Currently living in Texas, he serves as the Associate Professor of Clarinet at Baylor University School of Music. Before joining Baylor University, Ran held principal clarinet positions with the Jacksonville Symphony, the Grand Rapids Symphony, and was a fellow with the New World Symphony. He also has performed as a guest musician with The Cleveland Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. In the Spring of 2023 Ran served as acting principal clarinet with the Houston Grand Opera for their productions of Tosca and Salome.
During his time at New World Symphony, Ran won the concerto competition and performed the Nielsen Clarinet Concerto with the orchestra. During the summers, Ran has performed at Salzburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Tanglewood, Yellow Barn, Krzyżowa-Music, Lakes Area, Aspen, Norfolk, Sarasota, Britten–Pears and Breckenridge music festivals. Ran has been featured on radio and TV stations across the world, such as NDR in Germany, "Kol Ha'musica" in Israel, the Aspen Public Radio, WGBH in Boston, Blue Lake Public Radio and WGVU in Michigan and KUSC in Los Angeles. |
A recipient of a Houston Arts Alliance grant, Ran is passionate about expanding the reach of classical music through innovative, interactive, and interdisciplinary concert experiences. His Inside the Music creative programming is designed to foster deeper audience engagement and transform the ways in which listeners experience and connect with classical music. These performances are available to stream free of charge on YouTube, making them accessible to audiences around the world.

Ran’s book Clarinet Practice Unlocked is a comprehensive practice guide designed for clarinet students and educators at all levels. The book aims to help navigate the daunting task of practicing the clarinet, by offering clear, practical practice methods for tackling common challenges.
A versatile chamber musician, Ran has collaborated with leading musicians such as Gilbert Kalish, Martin Chalifour, Roger Tapping, Lucy Shelton, Erik Schumann, Richard Killmer, Frank Morelli, William Purvis, Kenneth Grant, and Scott Yoo. He performed at the Residence of the President of Israel, the Israeli Ministry of Education, and the Israeli Consulate in LA . Ran's chamber groups have performed at the Eastman Virtuosi Series, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, at the WinterMezzo concert series of Festival Mozaic, in Festival del Sole Napa Valley, Sunset ChamberFest, and as part of the Pulitzer Prize Centennial Celebration in Miami.
Ran received degrees with high honors from USC Thornton School of Music and the Eastman School of Music. His primary teachers were Yehuda Gilad, Jon Manasse, Andrew Brown and Eva Wasserman-Margolis. Ran is a Buffet Crampon USA Performing Artist and performs exclusively on Buffet Crampon instruments. Outside the concert hall, he enjoys cooking, skiing, hiking, playing tennis and soccer.
